NEWARK - Mary Ellen 'Mom Mary' Yellowdy of Newark went home to be with the Lord on Easter Sunday, April 8, 2007, in Newark. She was 99.
Mrs. Yellowdy was born Dec. 26, 1907, in Ebenezer, daughter of the late Alfred and Laura Caulk.
She was educated in the public schools of Townsend.
Mrs. Yellowdy was employed by Campbell Soup Corp. in Chestertown, Md. After successfully completing many years of service, she joyfully entered into retirement.
She was united in holy matrimony to the late Wade H. Yellowdy. Eleven beautiful children were born from this union.
Mrs. Yellowdy was a faithful and active member of Wesley Chapel of Love, Sassafras, Md. She was truly a devoted child of God. She served as trustee, treasurer, and was also a member of the choir. She enjoyed listening to gospel music. One of her favorite groups was "The Sensational Stars."
In addition to gospel music she enjoyed reading scriptures, cooking, and baking her famous pies. She always looked forward to church events and gatherings with family and friends. Her sweet, humble spirit, wisdom, and kindness were quite unique. Most recently her family learned of her love for writing. She kept many journals outlining her life experiences, love for her family and hope for her future in heaven.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughters, Doris, Joyce, Henrietta and Gladys; her sons, James, Arthur, Milton, Ralph, and Robert "Sneeze"; her sisters, Theo Caulk and Buelah Caulk; and her brothers, Jake Caulk, Arthur Caulk, Woody Caulk and Leon Caulk.
She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Ella Caldwell and Helen "Jenny" Givens; two sisters, Helen Byard and Naomi Williams; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; devoted granddaughters, Karen Pinkett and Beverly Wilson of Clayton; loyal friends Ruth Holmes and Bobbi Collins; three daughters-in-law, Sheila Yellowdy, Darlene Yellowdy and Virginia Yellowdy; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Wesley Chapel of Love, Sassafras, where friends may call two hours earlier.
