Mary Ellen Jenkins, 77
DOVER - Mary Ellen Jenkins, of Dover, passed away Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 77.
Mrs. Jenkins was born Oct. 8, 1930, in Smyrna, the daughter of the late Alfred M. Shane Sr. and Emma Bailey Shane.
She worked for the Capital School District, food services, until she retired in 2002.
She enjoyed taking care of her home, working in the yard and spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Melvin Shane; and a brother-in-law, Toby Johnson.
She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Robert P. "Bob" Jenkins; a daughter, Karen Jenkins and her fiancé John A. Diaz, with whom she lived; four brothers and two sisters, Alfred M. Shane Jr. and his wife Doris, Betty J. Blanchfield and her husband Austin, Jean Johnson, Donald Shane and his wife Mary, all of Smyrna, Douglas Shane and his wife Sandy of Clayton, and Larry Shane and his wife Harriet of Smyrna; and their beloved cat, "Rocky."
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 S. Main St., Smyrna, where friends may call one hour prior to the services.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association, 100 W. 10th Street Suite 1002, Wilmington, DE 19801.
