Martin Petersen, Jr., 89
DOVER - Martin died February 1, 2022 in the loving arms of his daughter-in-law Sharon in Dover Delaware.
He was a retired salesman and Vice President of Newark Glass and later City Newark Glass in New Jersey. He lived in Old Bridge, N.J. for 60 years before moving to Dover, Del. He was a proud Navy veteran who served on DD708 the USS Harlan R. Dickson. Marty had been to many of his ship's reunions and served as the host for their 13th Shipmates reunion in 2002. He loved to travel and see the many sights and cultures from different countries, states and cities. He traveled with his wife Dot, his family, and after Dot's death, with his devoted friend Gisela. He loved cruising anywhere and river cruising through Europe. Being the first generation in his family to be born in the U.S., he was extremely proud of his Danish heritage.
Marty also loved boating and fishing. He had sailed the Chesapeake Bay a few times. Later he finally bought his first motor boat and fished and crabbed in the waters off the coast of NJ. He was active with the Raritan Bay Power Squadron earning many awards.
After moving to Dover he became a member of the Modern Maturity Center. He found a great group of friends in the pinochle group.
Marty was preceded in death by his wife and true love, Dorothy; daughter, Lisa Anne; grandson, Ryan James; and his next love, Gisela.
He is survived by sons, Donald (Sharon), Chris (Isabelanne) and James (Debbie); grandchildren, Elisabeth Cote (Brian), Nicole Warner (Paul), Michael, Isabelanne, Hannah Bauer (Mike), Megan, Amanda, Kelley; and great grandchildren, Hayden, Logan, Addison, Caelan, Josephine and soon to arrive Baby Boy.
Funeral will be private and scheduled at a later date.
In lieu of flowers Marty would prefer you make a donation to your favorite charity.
