DOVER - Marion Georgina "Minnie" Housley-Haller of Dover died of lung cancer Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2006, in her home. She was 81.
Mrs. Haller was born Jan. 9, 1925, in Annapolis, Md., daughter of the late Lillian Housley Clark and William Fredrick Housley.
She retired from the state of Maryland Treasury Department, Tax Division, and moved to Dover in 1999.
Mrs. Haller enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and being a homemaker. She had a love for babies, and could never walk past a baby without stopping to talk to the child. A cook she wasn't. She was appropriately given a refrigerator magnet that said, "Dinner will be ready when you hear the smoke alarm." Nothing was undercooked. She always told her children that burnt food would make them pretty. She also was a collector and look-alike of Hallmark's Maxine. It was as if the character were written from her looks and personality.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Edward Halle Sr., whom she married Jan. 23, 1943, on June 16, 1973; a sister, Adele Hendricks; and two brothers, Richard Housley and William Housley.
She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Haller-Sappington of Cornelius, N.C., and Dorothy Haller-Sappington of Smyrna; a son, John Edward Haller Jr. of Dover; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Phipps of Ocala, Fla., and Lillian Peacock of Annapolis; and a brother, Harold "Jake" Housley of Annapolis.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m., and again from 6 to 8 p.m., today in Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday in the funeral home.
Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Park, Glen Burnie, Md.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Ewell's-St. Paul United Methodist Church, PO Box 266, Clayton, DE 19938; or to Heartland Hospice Services, Newark.
