Mother Marie W. Barkley, 82

SMYRNA - Mother Marie W. Barkley of Smyrna died peacefully Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006, in her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was 82.

Mother Marie was born July 3, 1924, in Blackwater, Va., daughter of the late McKinley and Mary Wallen.

She loved the Lord with all her heart and always put others before herself. She touched many people with her kindness and loving heart and will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Mother Marie was a loving mother and faithful, devoted member of the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Barkley; a daughter, Linda M. Barkley; a brother, George Wallen of South Carolina; and four sisters, Nancy Lincoln of Connecticut and Connie Saintjohn, Ruth Rockcolt and Myrtle Powell, all of South Carolina.

She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, James A. and Juanita Barkley of Golts, Md., and Robert D. Barkley of Smyrna, with whom she resided; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Darlene "Dolly" F. Barkley and Deborah and Lee Johnson, all of Smyrna, and Shirley and David Green of Townsend; a very special friend, whom she considered her daughter, Sarah Moody of Middletown; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Roy and Dorothy Wallen of Hinesville, Ga., and Billie Wallen of Chester, S.C.; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Cora and Val Bauck and Mary Rausey, all of Deep River, Conn.; 10 grandchildren, John, Tammy, Linda, Heather, Robert, Michael, Brandi, Dianna, Felicia and Jamie; 16 great-grandchildren, John-John, Lauren, Mikey, Alexander, Ethan, Trevor, Nidia, Madison, Ashlynn, Jill, Desirae, Madison, Gabby, Courtney, Kayla and Siarra; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and a very special niece, Martha "Susie" Roof of Smyrna, who took great care of her during her illness.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown.

Services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home.

Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Park, Feasterville, Pa.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.
