Margaret Hennis Schranck, 88
REHOBOTH BEACH - Margaret Hennis Schranck, a longtime resident of Rehoboth Beach, passed away Monday, Oct. 1, 2007, at her home. She was 88.
Mrs. Schranck was born Sept. 14, 1919, in Wilmington, to Harry Hennis and Anna McGrath Hennis.
She graduated from Wilmington High School in 1937 and attended Goldey College.
Mrs. Schranck then worked at the DuPont Co., including service on the Manhattan Project, during World War II.
Later in life, she was executive secretary of the Delaware Nature Education Society (later the Delaware Nature Society), at Brandywine Creek State Park and at its current offices in Ashland.
She married Joseph C. Schranck on Oct. 18, 1947.
At the time of her death, they were 17 days away from celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary.
After retiring to Rehoboth Beach, Mrs. Schranck remained active with golf, bridge, volunteer work, crosswords, travel and her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Ann McLaughlin and Kathleen Hackett.
Mrs. Schranck is survived by her husband, Joseph; her children and their spouses, Karen Dettwyler and her husband John of Hockessin, Joseph C. Schranck of Middletown, Frederick H. Schranck and his wife Susan of Rehoboth Beach, Thomas A. Schranck and his wife Debra of Mountainside, N.J., and David J. Schranck and his wife Margaret Bobick of Falls Church, Va.; her eight grandchildren, Joseph C. Schranck Jr. of Wilmington, Zachary Dettwyler of Fairfax, Va., Benjamin Dettwyler of Hockessin, Carolyn and Julia Schranck of Rehoboth Beach, Rachel and Samantha Schranck of Mountainside, N.J., and Molly Schranck of Falls Church, Va.
A viewing will be from 9-10 a.m. Monday in Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Edmond"s Roman Catholic Church, King Charles and Laurel avenues, Rehoboth Beach.
Internment will be Tuesday at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.
The family expresses its appreciation to Delaware Hospice, Beebe Hospital, Harbor Health Care, and Griswold Special Care for their care and kindness toward her and her family during her illness.
The family also suggests that contributions can be made in her memory to St. Edmond"s Church, 401 King Charles St., Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971; Delaware Hospice, 20167 Office Circle, Georgetown, DE 19947.
