CLAYTON - Manetta H. Carrow of Clayton, died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 81.
Mrs. Carrow was born Nov. 12, 1924, in Statesville, N.C., daughter of the late John D. Sr. and Carrie (Templeton) Holland.
She graduated from Cool Springs High School in Statesville in 1940 and from Delaware Technical & Community College in 1976 in the LPN Program.
Mrs. Carrow worked for Julian Dunning Inc. and Clements Supply in Clayton, for BP Oil in Dover and for the state of Delaware as a nurse until her retirement in 1987.
She married the late William R. "Ace" Carrow in Washington Dec. 28, 1946.
Mrs. Carrow was a charter and life member of the Clayton Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary and a member of Ewell's St. Paul United Methodist Church, Clayton.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Wade Holland and Howard Holland; a sister, Irene Carter; and a grandson, James E. Pritchard Jr.
She is survived by two daughters and two sons-in-law, Cindy C. and Harold Brode of Harrington and Catherine C. and James Pritchard of Dover; a son, William R. "Skip" Carrow II of Clayton; a brother and a sister-in-law, John D. and Theo Holland of Chincoteague, Va.; grandchildren, William Derrick Brode and his wife, Elizabeth, Earl Kenneth Brode and his wife, Tammi and Robert Glen Brode and his fiancée, Anna Kendall, all of Harrington and Alexander C. Carrow of Clayton; and two great-grandchildren, Halie Elizabeth Brode of Harrington and Chase Morrison of Crossville, Texas.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main St., Smyrna.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday in Ewell's St. Paul United Methodist Church, at the corner of West Street and Clayton Avenue, Clayton, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be private.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Clayton Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, P.O. Box 674, Clayton, DE 19938; or Ewell's St. Paul United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 266, Clayton, DE 19938.
