Madonna Lee Perkins, 84

SEAFORD - Madonna Lee Perkins, of Seaford, died Sunday, April 27, 2008. She was 84.

She was the wife of the late Roger Grubb Perkins, who died Aug. 13, 1999.

Born Sept. 1, 1923, in Louisville, Ky., she was the daughter of the late William and Ione (McConnell) Humbert.

Mrs. Perkins was employed as the founding executive director of the Sussex County Senior Services (CHEER Program) for more than 15 years.

She was also instrumental in establishing the Meals on Wheels program in Sussex County.

She spent her time during her early retirement as an Avon distributor in Seaford.

During World War II she was known as "Rosie the Riveter" and obtained her pilot's license and flew airplanes.

Mrs. Perkins was also the caregiver for her mother-in-law, Carita; her aunt, Lyndia; and many stray animals.

Surviving are two sons, Roger L. Perkins of Red Lion, Pa., and Douglas L. Perkins of Seaford; and five grandchildren, Lance A. Perkins, Peyton Perkins, Levi Perkins, Bonne Perkins and Joey Tramontano.

A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Monday at the Atlanta Road Alliance Church, Atlanta Road, Seaford, with Pastor Ed Larimore officiating.

For those desiring, contributions may be made in her memory to Sussex County Senior Services, 546 S. Bedford St. Ext., Georgetown, DE 19947; the Seaford Senior Center; or to the humane society to protect cruelty to animals.
