GREEN VALLEY, Ariz. - Lydia Ester Riley Markgraf, of Green Valley, formerly of Bridgeville, Del., died Monday, Nov. 13, 2006, in Green Valley after a long battle with cancer. She was 74.
Mrs. Markgraf was born in New Jersey, daughter of the late Rueben and Agnes Riley. The family lived on a farm in Bridgeville for many years.
She graduated from Bridgeville Consolidated School in 1950 and attended the 50th reunion with her classmates in 2000.
Mrs. Markgraf retired from civil service after working at NASA in Edwards, Calif., Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, Alaska, and for the Department of Defense at the Pentagon in Washington. She also loved antiques and had an antique store for many years in Buckeystown, Md.
She loved to read and travel and sold rare books at many book shows across the country.
Mrs. Markgraf was a member of the Scarlet Toppers Red Hats Society in Green Valley.
She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Erwin Markgraf; a daughter and a son-in-law, Denise and Morris Tatman of Bridgeville; a granddaughter, Allison Workman of Bridgeville; a son and daughter-in-law, Dennis Loockerman and Debi Carlson of Austin, Texas; and two granddaughters, Coral Loockerman and Amber Loockerman, both of Austin.
Services will be private.
