COLUMBIA, Md. - Lucius McNairy Dickson, of Columbia, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2008. He was 78.
Mr. Dickson was born July 19, 1929, in Mineral Wells, Miss., son of LaDelle Ingram and Lucius McNairy Dickson Sr.
He moved to Washington, D.C., in 1943, and graduated from Central High School in 1947.
He had recently served as treasurer of Central Alumni Association.
Mr. Dickson served active duty 1951-1953 in the 1st Armored Division, Fort Hood, Texas, and the 7th Division in Korea.
He was in the active reserve 1953-1956 and discharged from the Army as Sergeant 1st class.
He attended Montgomery Junior College and graduated from American University with a degree in business administration.
Mr. Dickson was a commercial lending officer at American Security Bank in Washington, D.C., before retiring in 1988.
He married Joanne Holt in Dover, Del., on April 30, 1955. They lived in Beltsville for 36 years before moving to Columbia.
While in Beltsville, Mr. Dickson served as president of the Calverton Citizens Association in 1979 and was an active member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Deanne and Matthew Yetman of Brookeville and their four children, Zhenia, Alex, Victoria Grace and Christian, and Suzanne and Skip Mead of Bowie and their three children, Shari, Mariah and CJ; his brother, Joe Dickson and wife Mary of Little Rock, Ark.; sister, Mildred Friends of Nolfolk, Va.; and step-sister Winnie Yarger and husband Charles of Chapel Hill, N.C.
Services will be 4 p.m. today at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 12430 Scaggsville Road, Highland, where friends may call one hour prior. The Rev. Malcolm Stranahan will officiate.
Burial with a graveside service, with Rev. Ray Graham will be Sunday in Lakeside Cemetery, Dover.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.
