Lloyd Walter Warrington

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Lloyd Walter Warrington, 84, of Colorado Springs, died on Sept. 13, 2011. Born Oct. 23, 1926, in Hampshire, Ill., he was the son of Walter J. and Mary A. (Roesslein) Warrington. Lloyd attended the Reid School in rural Hampshire, Ill., was a graduate of Hampshire High School, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Delaware State University. He was a career veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving 30 years. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in February 1946 and was a veteran of World War II, Korea, and Viet Nam, ending his career as a Chief Master Sergeant (E-9) in 1976 at Dover Air Force Base, Dover, DE. He was a life member of the VFW, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, Air Force Sergeants Association, and the Air Force Association. Lloyd was very active with the Air Force Sergeants Association and was a past International Vice President. After retiring from the U.S. Air Force, he was an electronics instructor for Delaware Technical and Community College and the DuPont Corporation in Seaford, Del. Lloyd and his family were residents of Dover, Del., from 1967 - 1990. While living in Fort Collins, Colo., he was instrumental in establishing a veteran's service organization (VSI), whose primary goal is to assist all veterans in that area of Colorado. His activities included being a volunteer driver for the Disabled American Veterans, transporting disabled veterans living in northern Colorado to Veterans Administration Hospitals in Cheyenne, Wyo., and Denver, Colo. He also spent time presenting programs on patriotism to elementary school students. His hobbies included traveling the United States, hunting and fishing with his sons. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Georgia Jean (Ruth) Warrington, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; their four children, Ruth Gray of Pueblo, Colo., Carol (William) Flowers of Germantown, Md., Lloyd Jr. (Becky) of Houston, Texas, and Steven (Laura) of Larkspur, Colo.; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; three brothers, Dean of Hampshire, Ill., Gene (Sue) of Hampshire, Ill., Roy (Donna) of Surprise, Ariz.; and his sister, Marian Bohl of North Fort Myers, Fla. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Alvin, Howard, Wayne; and a sister, Marion A., in infancy. A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Hampshire on Saturday, Nov. 12, at 11 a.m., the Rev. Gavin Brandt officiating. A graveside service and military salute will follow at Hampshire Center Cemetery.
