DAGSBORO - Lis Petersen Bender of Dagsboro passed away unexpectedly at home on Sunday, March 27, 2016. Lis was born in Copenhagen, Denmark in 1942. She met her husband Clayton E. Bender in Germany in 1959 and moved with him to Japan and then settled in the USA. She became a naturalized citizen in 1997. She co-owned the Hobbi Inn located in Smyrna and Marydel. She was an artist, sculptor, master gardener, creative decorator, and a very outgoing person. She loved life and adventures. Her infectious smile, mischievous antics, and easy going manner will be missed greatly by her family and friends. She will forever be a part of our lives. She was predeceased by her grandmother, Julia Petersen who raised her; her mother, Henny Petersen Reseke; father, Karl Hunke; and husband, Clayton E. Bender. She is survived by her three children, Melody P. Bender (John Forbes) of Dover, John T. Bender and his wife Liberty of Westminster, Md, and Russel M. Bender (Cindy Martin) of Marydel; four grandchildren, Stacy Ramsburg (Chase), Jonathan Bender, Bryan Bender, & Tanner Bender; her sister & brother-in-law, Marianne & Henrich Wulff; and brother, Jesper Reseke, of Denmark. Services will be held privately at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Lis' name to the charity of your choice.
