FELTON - Lester T. O'Day of Felton, formerly of Center Moriches, N.Y., passed away Saturday, March 24, 2007, in his home. He was 84.
Lester was born in Viola, son of the late Thomas Wesley and Annie (Williamson) O'Day.
He was a driver for Smithtown (N.Y.) Trucking for many years, retiring in 1981.
Lester was a member of the IBFT Local 282, the Center Moriches Fire Department, the Riverhead, N.Y., and Harrington Loyal Order of the Moose, and a founding member of the Viola Ruritan Club. He was also a member of the Kingdom Hall Jehovah's Witness in Felton.
He enjoyed traveling, especially by RV. He was a skilled woodworker and carpenter and built a church alter and many dining room suites and other furniture over the years. He also enjoyed mechanic work and restored a 1921 Brockway for the Center Moriches Fire Department that is still used in antique musters.
Lester was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific and European Theatres.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Bernadette (Raymond) O'Day; three brothers, Elmer L. O'Day, Roland W. O'Day and Norman O'Day; and a sister, Helen (O'Day) Thompson.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Helen (Woikoski) O'Day; three children, Kathleen Muller and her husband Robert of Wingdale, N.Y., Dawn Davis and her husband Thomas of Center Moriches, and Thomas Lester O'Day of Jamaica; five stepchildren and their spouses, Paul and Pat Everett of Harrington, Jean Boyer of Lexington, Va., Kaye and J. Glenn Davidson of Felton, Carol Flanagan of Daytona Beach, Fla., and William Bruce and Donna Humphrey of Felton; two sisters, Dorothy O'Day and Louise (O'Day) Biddle, both of Felton; nine grandchildren; 15 step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; 26 step-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, Main Street, Felton, where friends may call after 9 a.m.
Elder Robert Smith will officiate.
Burial will be in Mount Olive Cemetery, Sandtown.
