Lela P. Taylor HARRINGTON - Lela P. Taylor, of Harrington, died Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at Milford Memorial Hospital Bayhealth Medical Center. She was born Nov. 24, 1914, the daughter of the late Fred and Cora Parker, of Harrington. She was a graduate of Harrington High School and Beacom College. In the past Lela had worked for the Kent County engineer, bookkeeping for the Theis Motor Co. of Denton, Md. and typed for the Kent County Assessment Office. Lela married J. Edward Taylor in 1936 and joined him in the Taylor Hardware business. She was also the secretary - treasurer of Taylor and Messick, Inc. She was involved in the activities of her children in Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4-H club, and the choirs of the church. Lela was a member of the Harrington Merrymakers Homemakers Club, Harrington New Century Club, Harrington Museum, Harrington Grange, Delaware Farm Bureau, Harrington Senior Center and the Milford Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School. She belonged to the Choir Mothers Auxiliary, United Methodist Women, Pathfinders Sunday School class and served on the church's administrative board. Lela was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, J. Edward Taylor on July 28, 2006; and siblings, Ruth Gadow, Pauline Seigel, Mildred Minner, Bill Parker and Emma Lee Hughes. She is survived by a son, Robert Taylor and his wife Betty, of Harrington; two daughters, Nancy Green and her husband Joe of Harrington and Susan Heflebower and her husband Jim, of Charlestown, W.Va.; six grandchildren James Green and Rob Taylor, both of Harrington; Teresa Taylor, of Hagerstown, Md., Linda Johnson, of Camden; Greg Heflebower of Charlestown, W.Va.; Mary K. Phillips,of Newport and 14 great grandchildren. Friends called on Friday evening May 14 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the McKnatt, Carpenter & Baker Funeral Home, 50 Commerce Street, Harrington. Friends also called from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 15, at Asbury United Methodist Church, 200 Weiner Avenue, Harrington, where funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Milford - Harrington Highway, Harrington. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to either the Asbury United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 200 Weiner Avenue, Harrington, DE 19952 or to the Harrington Senior Center, 102 Fleming Street, Harrington, DE 19952.
