Lawrence Fred Anderson Sr. MILFORD - Lawrence Fred Anderson Sr., age 91, of Milford, passed away at Kent General Hospital on Sunday, April 4, 2010. Born July 2, 1918, Lawrence was a native of Statesville, N.C. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and participated in the initial landings and battles in the Philippines and Okinawa. Lawrence was a carpenter by trade and retired from Aberdeen Proving Ground. He enjoyed outdoor activities and sports and was a great fan of the NFL. He will be remembered most for his love of family and great sense of humor. He was the son of the late James and Lizzie Anderson. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Carl and James; and his sister, Mildred Cartner. Additionally, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia Legieko, who passed away in 1980; and his second wife, Lorraine Johnson, who passed away in 2007. Lawrence is survived by his sons, Lawrence Anderson Jr. of Elkton, Md., and Ronald Anderson Sr. of Smyrna; grandchildren, Kimberly Burnham, Ronald Anderson Jr., Stephen Anderson, David Anderson, Valerie Dryer, Alisa Anderson, and Laura Maccherone; as well as 16 great-grandchildren. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, April 8, in the Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Road, Newark, from 6 to 8 p.m. followed by a service in celebration of Lawrence's life at 8 p.m. Burial will be held on Monday, April 12, at 11 a.m. in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, in Bear. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Delaware Veterans Home, 100 Delaware Veterans Blvd., Milford, DE 19963.
