MILLINGTON, Md. - Lawrence A. Collins, Jr., died Jan. 3, 2017 in Shore Medical Center, Chestertown, Md. Mr. Collins was born on March 26, 1930, son of the late Lawrence A. and Phebe Abbott Collins, Sr. He was raised in Linwood, Pa., and at the age of 16 moved to Millington, Md. He was a two year U.S. Army Veteran, serving overseas during the Korean War for a year. In 1956 he began operating the Green Tree Inn, which he and his wife owned for 40 years. He also worked as a mason and carpenter for many commercial construction companies and for 10 years was a yardman for Calotex in Middletown. Mr. Collins was a Charter Member of VFW Post 652 Millington, where he along with other members helped in the construction of the VFW. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Ethel Traverse Collins in 2010; two sons, John and Gerald Collins; two brothers, Fred and Charles Collins; and a sister, Violet McCrea. Mr. Collins is survived by four children, Lawrence M. Collins (Alice), of Church Hill, Md., Deborah L. Fulton (Arthur), of Barclay, Md., Ethel E. Bogia (Victor) of Clayton and Joanne L. Warner, of Galena, Md.; a brother, Raymond Collins, of Anthony, Fla.; five sisters, Lavinia McNatt, of Smyrna, Phebe Wallace, of Clayton, Dorothy Jenkins, of Ocala, Fla., Margaret Sherouse, of Anthony, Fla. and June Johnson, of Ft. McCoy, Fla.; and six grandchildren, Andrew M. Collins, Holly E. McCracklin (Charles), John G. Collins, Geoffrey W. Collins, Victor L. Bogia and Alisha L. Warner. A viewing will be held on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 West Cross St. Galena, Md., where funeral service will be held on Friday, Jan. 6, 2017, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Townsend Cemetery, Townsend.
