NORTH EAST, Md. - Lavenia Lovely Coleman peaceably ended her earthly journey Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2006, in her home. She was 79.
Mrs. Coleman was born Sept. 11, 1927, in Taylor"s Island. She was raised by the late Herman and Edith Palmer.
She worked as a seamstress for 20 years, and with the Grandparents Program in Seaford Public Schools and at the Seaford Boys & Girls Club.
She loved the Lord and was very active at the Church of God where she sang in the choir and participated in event planning activities.
Mrs. Coleman volunteered at the Seaford Nanticoke Hospital.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Jacqueline Portlock.
She is survived by her devoted and loving husband, the Rev. Robert T. Coleman Sr. of North East; seven devoted children, Joyce Petty and her husband, Frank, of Kennett Square, Pa., Geraldine Pinkett and her husband, Gilbert, of Avandale, Pa., Robert Coleman Jr. and his wife, Valery, of Elkton, Surina Jordan and her husband, Herbert, of Baltimore, Timothy Coleman and his wife, Cindy, of Laurel, Del., Bruce Coleman and his wife, Jeraporn, of Hawaii and Sheila Coleman-Turner and her husband, Ryan, of Silver Spring; a son-in-law, Harry Portlock of Delaware City, Del.; 19 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Delma Williams of Seaford; a brother, Roland Stewart; an uncle, Namon Palmer of Federalsburg; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Church of God, 743 E. Clarence St., Seaford.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday in the church, where friends call one hour earlier.
