Larry J. Davis

Harrington - Larry J. Davis, Harrington, formerly of Illinois, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 25, 2018, at the Delaware Veterans Home of Milford, he was 72. Mr. Davis was born in Olney, Ill. to the late, Carl Eugene and Ruby Dean Davis.
Mr. Davis worked as a plant operator in the refinery field in Illinois. He was active in many civic organizations while living in Illinois, and was a member of the Elks Lodge, Moose, and the Lions Club.
Mr. Davis enjoyed bowling and bowled quite a bit on different leagues. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and mushroom hunting. He was also an accomplished artist who dabbled into a lot of areas. He enjoyed sign painting, pin striping, and calligraphy. One of his professional accomplishments in his life was as a Superman mascot. Between the years of 1969-77, he was a local celebrity in his community for being Superman and wearing the trademarked tights and playing the part. He was featured in many television programs, published in various books, national magazines like Time and Newsweek to name a few. He did many presentations for elected officials and the Governor and is even memorialized in his hometown museum. He may have played the part of Superman in the community, but he was also Superman at home. He loved his family dearly and was a loving and devoted husband and father. He will be greatly missed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Rick Davis; and three great grandchildren, Aryanna, Aubrey Davis, John Davis.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Cindy Davis; sons and daughters in law, Jason T. and Cindy Davis, Chad E. Davis and significant other Kelly Wilds, Scott A. and Cyndi Davis; brothers, Gary Davis, Bob Davis; sister, Brenda Wells; grandchildren, Austin, Aaron, Adriana, Ashley, Ryne, Kyla, Justina, Sarah, McKenzie, Shelby, Garrett; four great grandchildren, Saniya, Breelynn, Caiden, Carter.
Celebration of Life Service will take place at the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy, Harrington, DE 19952, on Tuesday, October 30, 2018, at 1PM with a visitation for family and friends starting at 11AM. Interment will follow the service at the Camden Odd Fellows Cemetery.
