FREDERICA - Katherine "Kitty" L. (Dunning) Shumar, formerly of Frederica, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2017, at Cadia Healthcare Renaissance in Millsboro.
She was born on Jul. 4, 1925, in Millington, Md., daughter of the late Arley and Laura (Pearson) Dunning. She was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Frederica and also attended Bethel United Methodist Church in Lewes. Kitty loved to sing and sang in the church choir and with the Johnny Cake singers at the Frederica Senior Center. Kitty worked for Kalmar Bus Services for over twenty-five years. Kitty loved cooking for church, family, and friends and also enjoyed playing games and cards. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and dear friend, who will be missed by all that knew her.
In addition to her parents, Kitty was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel L. Shumar; her brothers, Carrol "Buddy", George, Harvey, Robert "Bob" Dunning; and sister, Bertha Scotton. She is survived by her daughters, Deborah "Debbie" L. Adams of Lewes and Barbara A. Shumar of Odenton, Md.; her two grandchildren, Andrea M. Davis and Scott M. Adams and wife Hillary of Morgantown, W.V.a.; her three great-grandchildren, Alexander and Alizabeth Davis and Chloe Adams; and sisters-in-law, Jane Dunning and Janet (Shumar) Reed; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Friday, Sept. 1, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where friends may visit beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will immediately follow at the Barratt's Chapel Cemetery, Bay Road, Frederica. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, PO Box 4, Frederica, DE 19946, Bethel United Methodist Church, 129 W. Fourth Street, Lewes, DE 19958, or Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963, in Katherine Shumar's name.
