Katharine Keough, 97

WORTON, Md. - Katharine Keough of Worton, formerly of Boston, died Monday, April 23, 2007, in Chester River Hospital Center, Chestertown. She was 97.

Ms. Keough was born July 15, 1909, daughter of the late William Thomas and Rose Butler Keough.

She enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943, and earned the rank of lieutenant commander. She was honorably discharged in 1969.

Mrs. Keough received a master's degree in counseling from Boston University. She was a guidance counselor for the Boston public school system. After her retirement she took a six-month trip around the world.

She was past president of the National Historian of Massachusetts Reserve Officers Association, past president of TIARA, past member of the Secular Franciscan Order and was a historian for the West Roxbury Historical Society.

Mrs. Keough enjoyed knitting lap robes for the veterans of Perry Point.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and John Keough.

She is survived by a nephew, William Keough of Chalfont, Pa.; three nieces, Dorothy Domanowski of LaGrange Park, Ill., Patricia Gladu of Worton, and Karen Hart of Phoenix; nine great-nieces and great-nephews and 11 great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Friday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church's Chapel, 508 High St., Chestertown.

Burial will be private in Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery, Hurlock.
