BETHLEHEM, Md. - Joseph W. Marquardt Sr. of Bethlehem died Monday, Nov. 13, 2006, in Bethlehem. He was 67.
Mr. Marquardt was born May 24, 1939, in Easton, son of the late Fred and Anna (Jurceka) Marquardt.
He was a lifelong resident of Preston, and had a strong faith in the Lord.
After attending public school in Preston, Mr. Marquardt joined the U.S. Marine Corps.
Upon his release from service, he returned to Preston where he married the late Patricia Lee Lowe. They built a home and had a family on his grandfather's farm in Bethlehem, where he lived his remaining years as a self-employed plumbing, heating and electrical contractor in the Mid-Shore area.
Mr. Marquardt was a member of American Legion Post 70, Easton, and a former member of the Junior Order in Preston.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Charles I. Marquardt, in 1988.
He is survived by his companion, Rose Johnson; five sons and two daughters-in-law, Joseph W. Marquardt Jr. of Cumberland, Michael Alan and Shirley Marquardt of Gettysburg, Pa., Richard Lee and Jennifer Marquardt of Bethlehem, Gary Rudolph Marquardt and his partner, Hugo Ruesgas, of Oxford and Rodney Scott Marquardt and his partner, Brenda Lambert, of Grasonville; two sisters, Anne Foreman of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Rose Marie Bossert of Aiken, S.C.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday in Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, Easton, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery, Hurlock.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to American Legion Post 70, 29511 Canvasback Drive, Easton, MD 21601.
