Joseph Vilk, 63

PHILADELPHIA - Joseph Vilk of Philadelphia died Wednesday, March 21, 2007, in Delaware County Memorial Hospital, Upper Darby, Pa. He was 63.

Mr. Vilk retired from the City of Philadelphia, working as the First District Engineer in their Streets Department.

He was a graduate of Temple University and served during the Vietnam War with the SeaBees.

Mr. Vilk was a member of the Upper Eastern Shore Anglers Club. He loved to fish, enjoyed sailing and was an avid model boat builder. Mr. Vilk enjoyed reading and music and was a self-proclaimed political junkie. He was very capable around the house and was referred to as "Mr. Fix-It." Among his many comfort characteristics was that he was a wonderful cook.

He is survived by his wife, Helaine (Wendorf) Vilk; a son, Daniel I. Vilk, and a grandson, Louis Vilk, both of Philadelphia; and his nieces and nephews, Marshall and Sandy Seigle and Jackie and Eric Seigle, all of Phoenixville, Pa., and Mitchell Seigle of San Jose, Calif.

A service of remembrance will be Saturday, April 7, at 11 a.m., in the Fellows Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown, Md.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in his memory to the Chester River Hospice Foundation, 6602 Church Hill Road, Chestertown, MD 21620.
