SEAFORD - Joseph "Rhea" Shannon, age 77, of Seaford, passed away on Tuesday, May 3, 2016. Rhea retired from the Penco Corporation in Seaford after 41 years of service, where he was a salesman and a manager of the Easton, Md. store. After retirement he worked for the Cranston Funeral Home. He served on the Seaford City Council from 2005 to 2014. He was Vice-Mayor from 2007 to 2014, Police/Fire Commissioner from 2007 to 2014 and Administration Liaison from 2005 to 2007. He was a Life Member of the Seaford Volunteer Fire Co. and a Past Fire Chief, a member of Hiram Lodge #21 AF&AM. He was also an active member of St. John's United Methodist Church, where he had served on their Board. Rhea is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patricia Rawlins Shannon; a son, Scott Shannon (May); four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Patrick Shannon in 2011. Memorial Services will be 2 p.m., Saturday, May 7, 2016 at St. John's United Methodist Church, Pine & Poplar Sts., Seaford, where friends may call from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations may be made to St. John's United Methodist Church, P O Box 299, Seaford, DE 19973 or Vitas Hospice, 20103 Professional Park Blvd, #200, Georgetown, DE 19947.
