DOVER - Joseph F. "Joe" Davis, of Melody Meadows, passed away on Aug. 7, 2013 after a brief illness. Joe was born on May 8, 1936 to Millard and Theresa Davis. Joe served as a Pipefitter Class "A" in the US Navy from 1955 through 1958 aboard the USS Cadmus and the USS Sheldrake, and went on to a career with the US Postal Service, retiring as Manager of Fleet Operations in 1991 with 35 years of service. While working at the Post Office he continued his education, graduating with an Associate's Degree in Business Management from Goldey Beacom College. After retirement he kept busy working for the Head Injury Recovery Center in Newark, earning his CDL license in 1994 through Cecil Community College, and working as a security guard for many years. Joe and Geneva were married for 49 years. He was a devoted caregiver for Geneva during the long illness preceding her death in 2010. An avid fisherman for many years, Joe's image often graced the pages of the "In-Fisherman." He loved to work in the yard and recently discovered a love of painting. Joe will be remembered for his kind soul, his generous heart, and his impetuous enthusiasm which touched everyone around him. He is predeceased by his parents; his beloved wife, Geneva; his daughter, Dawn Simmons of Mesquite, Texas; and his siste,r June Hackney of Dover. Joe is survived by his sister, Mary Jane Villone and her husband Fran Bailey of Middletown; son, Adam Davis and wife Terri of Seaford; brother-in-law, "Bub" Hackney of Dover; granddaughter, Misti Simmons and son-in-law, Tim Simmons, of Mesquite, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as his inseparable canine sidekick, Reges. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013 at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, 212 N. Broad Street in Middletown, where friends may visit from 4 to 5 p.m. Interment will be held privately at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear, DE.
