John W. Foraker, 61

SMYRNA - John W. Foraker, passed away Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008. He was 61. John was born Oct. 16, 1947 in Dover, the son of the late Willard Foraker and Mary Shockley Shields. He worked as a car hauler for Anchor Motor Freight in New Castle, for several years before retirement, and was a member of Teamsters Local 326. John was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion David C. Harrison Post 14 and Asbury United Methodist Church, both in Smyrna, and the Smyrna-Clayton Moose Lodge. John's hobbies included farming and mechanics. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Shockley; and his step-father, Bill Shields. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Goldsborough Foraker; a son, David W. Foraker of Dover; a daughter, Debbie Naylor and her husband, Luke of Clayton; a step-daughter, Lorie Gipson of Smyrna; three sisters, Dorothy Burris of Dover, Betty Kent of Camden-Wyoming, and Ruth Ann Shockley of Mclean, Va.; and seven grandchildren, Christian, Emily, and Andrew Naylor, and Amber, Chase, Hunter, and Carly. Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 S. Main St., Smyrna, where friends may call one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna.
