DOVER - John "Jack" Dewey, of Dover, passed away Dec. 29, 2010, at his residence. He was 74. Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., he was the son of the late John and Catherine Boldt Dewey. He had moved from Monroeville, Pa. to Dover in 1965, and had served as a Switching Tech for Bell Telephone, Diamond State Telephone, Bell Atlantic which eventually became Verizon. He retired as a Senior Technician in 2000. He had served as President of the Telephone Pioneers of America, Liberty Bell Chapter # 6 from 1989 to 1990 where he held several chairs throughout the years. He was a member of the BPO Elks Lodge # 1903, the Camden Wyoming Moose Lodge and served as Committee Chairman for Holy Cross Cub Pack 154 for close to 10 years. He was a dedicated husband and one who could always be counted on when supporting his children in their activities. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Julie Gallegos, who died in 2002. Jack leaves his loving wife, Judith Marie De Capri Dewey of Dover; daughters (and spouse), Denise & Steve Cockburn of Champaign, ILL, Jackquline Hamsay of Pittsburgh, Pa; sons (and spouses), Jeffrey and Jill Dewey of Camden, and James and Angeline Dewey of Felton; grandchildren, Steven Cockburn Jr, and fiance, Donna Lacey of Champaign, Ill; Mark Cockburn and friend Sara Thomas of Magnolia; Kyle and Kody Dewey of Camden; John Gallegos of Dover, and Jerrica Gallegos of ILL; Alex Dewey and Jenna Dewey of Felton; two brothers, Paul Dewey and his significant other, Janet Coleman of South Port, N.C., Dennis and his wife, Claudia Dewey of Carnegie, Pa; two brothers in-law, Charles Chuck De Capri of Dover, and Robert and wife Carolyn De Capri of Glen Allen, Va.; along with several nieces and nephews. Friends may call Mon. from 7 until 9 p.m. at the Funeral Home of Michael J. Ambruso 1175 S. State St. Dover, DE 19901. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 10 a.m. on Tues., January 4, 2011, at Holy Cross Church S. State St. Dover, DE. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Dover.
