GREENWOOD - John Robert Collins "Robert Lee", also known as Bobby, born 1938 in Greenwood, Del., to the late John Fred and Georgette Labbee Collins, died peacefully at home on May 29th, 2012. Robert Lee graduated from Greenwood High School, than enlisted in the Delaware National Guards transferring to United States Air Force 326th Loadmaster Section at Dover Air Force Base in 1970 where he retired after 37 years as Chief Master Sergeant. He earned 13 military awards and served in Vietnam and Desert Storm. Robert Lee was probably best known from the Greenwood Tastee Freez which he owned and operated over 26 years then purchasing the Tri-State Tastee Freez Franchise. Robert Lee went on to build over 700 homes from Collins' Custom Homes. Over the past 27 years he enjoyed raising American Bison on his family farm just east of Greenwood. Through the years Robert Lee was appointed State Chairman for the DE Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserves, President of the National Bison Association, Greenwood Alumni, Tastee Freez Roundtable, Past Chief of Greenwood Fire Co., and served on the board of directors for the Delaware State Fair. He was also a life member in the Air Force Sergeant's Assoc., VFW, and American Legion. Robert Lee is survived by his wife of 51 years Joann Mervine Collins; three daughters, Wanda Bowers and husband Jeff Bowers, Carla Parker and husband Deric Parker and Bobbi Lester and husband Allen Lester; six grandchildren, Jared, Devyn, Tanner Bowers, Erin, Brooks Parker and Maddy Lester. Funeral Services will be held Sunday, June 3, 2012 at Greenwood Vol. Fire Co. at 1:00 p.m. where friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Interment will be at St. Johnstown Cemetery, Greenwood DE. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Greenwood Vol. Fire Co. P.O. Box 1, Greenwood DE 19950. Arrangements by Fleischauer Funeral Home, Greenwood.
