HARRINGTON - John Pickett Jr., of Harrington, son of Doris Pickett and the late John Pickett Sr., was born on March 23, 1956, in Milford. He departed this life suddenly on Jan. 30, 2007, in his home. He was 50.

Johnny, as he was called by all, received his education in the Lake Forest School District and Delaware State College.

He loved sports. One would often find him playing basketball with his nephews, and when he was younger, he would try to take on his sisters in the game. He excelled in football and received many awards and trophies for his skill on the football field.

Johnny was a loving, sensitive person who always had a smile. He was generous to a fault and enjoyed socializing with his family and friends.

During his early teens, he worked along side his father learning to finish concrete. He became highly skilled in this area and worked in the family business until his father passed in 1992. Prior to his death, he was employed at Wyoming Concrete Industries.

He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Doris Pickett of Harrington; two children, John Scott of Wilmington, and Tyniece Scott of Lincoln; a grandson, Tymere Scott; seven sisters, Delores Pickett-Scott of Milford, Sharon Pickett-Lewis and Rosena Pickett, both of Felton, and Kathy Pickett, Vanessa Pickett, Debra Pickett and Doretha Pickett, all of Harrington; a brother-in-law, Linwood Lewis of Felton; two nieces, Jasmine Manley and Candace Pickett, both of Harrington; three nephews, Michael Scott and his special friend Karren Ryan of Milford, and Levar Manley and Brandon Manley, both of Harrington; three uncles, Kenneth Baynard of Harrington, and Bennie Pickett and Frank Pickett, both of Patterson, N.J.; six aunts, Helen Faulkner of Wilmington, Marilyn Baynard of Harrington, Janie Holmes of Roselle, N.J., Carrie Brisbin and Bernice Martin, both of Patterson, and Queen Elizabeth Holmes of Virginia Beach, Va.; and a host of cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be noon Tuesday in Bennie Smith Funeral Home, 717 W. Division St., Dover, where friends may view from 10 a.m. to noon.

Interment will be in Sharon Hill Memorial Gardens, Dover.
