John L. Slagle, 76 CHESTERTOWN, Md. - John L. Slagle, 76, of Chestertown, formerly of St. Georges, Del., died July 18, 2008, in Chestertown Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Mr. Slagle was born May 14, 1932, and raised in Quaker Neck, son of the late Charles and Catherine Dickerson Slagle. He served with the Army's 82nd Airborne during the Korean War. Mr. Slagle worked as a truck driver with Amoco Chemical in New Castle, Del., for over 20 years, retiring in 1996. He enjoyed crabbing, fishing, bluegrass music and being outdoors with his dogs. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Preston Slagle; a sister, Alice Crouch; and a stepson, Steven King. He is survived by two children, Paula Bennett and Wayne Slagle, both of St. Georges; two stepsons, Dennis King of Columbia, S.C., and Alan King of Leesburg, Va.; a sister, Thelma Legg of Chestertown; three grandchildren; and his devoted companion, Doris Corrigan of Still Pond. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Chester Cemetery, Chestertown. Memorials may be offered to the Humane Society of Kent County, 10720 Augustine Herman Highway, Chestertown, MD 21620. Arrangements by Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech.
