John Edward 'Jack' Kiker Jr., 77

MILTON - John "Jack" Edward Kiker Jr. of Milton died suddenly Sunday, Dec. 21, 2007, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. He was 77.

He was born June 5, 1930, in Germantown, Pa., the only son of John E. Kiker Sr. and Mary Wilchinsky.

Jack spent the early part of his life living in Danboro, Pa., and graduated from the original Doylestown High School.

Upon graduation, he entered the Air Force and served proudly as a radio transmitter in Germany.

After ending his tour of duty, Jack returned to Danboro and was employed with Bell of Pennsylvania, where he worked throughout Bucks and Montgomery counties as a cable repairman.

In 1974, he and his wife Renee moved to Flagler Beach, Fla., where Jack was employed with Southern Bell until his retirement.

Then Jack became an independent contractor, still working on telephone repair service and that was what brought him to Milton in 1990.

He finally retired from all work at the age of 65.

He and Renee enjoyed several years of traveling in their camper seeing most of Delmarva.

Jack was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was commander while living in Florida.

He also was a member of American Legion Post 28, and enjoyed many evenings losing at their casino nights. Jack also enjoyed many of their Sunday morning breakfast meetings.

Most of Jack's volunteer time was at the Lewes-Rehoboth Moose Lodge. He served several positions of office, including the position of governor. Jack helped Renee in the kitchen washing dishes and filling the coffee pots. He had many friends there.

Jack was loved and admired by many people and he will be sadly missed.

A few weeks before Jack died he decided he wanted to join the Elks Lodge. When asked why he needed yet another membership, his answer was, "I have met a lot of lovely people who are Elks members and play on the shuffleboard team, and I just want to be one of them."

That was not in God's plan though, as he was taken in less than a month of becoming a member.

He is survived by his wife, Renee (Tazey) Kiker of Milton; a son, John Edward Kiker III and his wife Barbara of Perkasie, Pa.; a daughter, Beverly Ann Kiker of Milton; a son, Christopher Alan Kiker and his wife Dawn of Ellendale; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Ellendale United Methodist Church, Main Street.

Refreshments will be served at the Ellendale Firehouse following the church service.

Interment will be private at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.

Instead of flowers, Jack would be happy for donations to be made to Ellendale United Methodist Church, Sunday School Building Fund, P.O. Box 193, Ellendale, DE 19941.

Arrangements handled by Short Funeral Services, Milton.
