Jane Smith McCracken, 68

DOVER - Jane Smith McCracken, formerly of Eastburn Acres, died on Monday, Oct. 6, 2008, in Capitol Nursing Home in Dover. She was 68. Jane graduated from P.S. Dupont High School Class of 1958 and attended Thompsons Business School. She worked as a secretary for Peoples Bank and Speakman Company after high school. She met and married on Valentine's Day in 1959, the love of her life and best friend, Bill McCracken. She took time off from working full-time to care for her family, but she was not idle during this time as she learned keypunch and taught ceramics. She later returned to secretarial work in the banking and credit card business. Upon retiring from Experian Credit Bureau, she continued her love of crafts, and enjoyed spending time with her family. She is preceded in death by her parents, Irvin and Lillian Smith; and brother James. She is survived by her husband William of 49 years, and their three sons, William III and fiancé Karen of Wilmington, Sean and wife Kristen of Smyrna, and Jim and wife Holly of Newark; six grandchildren, William IV, Samantha, Michael, Sean Jr., Katie, and Danny; two brothers, Irvin Jr and wife Delores Smith, and Dave and wife Joann Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Chandler Funeral Home, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803. Burial will be in Barratt's Chapel Cemetery in Frederica (http://www.barrattschapel.org) Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to either the St. Jude's Children's Hospital, the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
