DOVER - Jane C. Moore, of Dover passed away peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008, in Capitol Healthcare, Dover. She was 100. Jane Clothier Wood was born June 11, 1908, in Wilmington, the youngest of eight children of Samuel Clark Wood and Annie Clothier Wood. She spent most of her life in Delaware and most of her adult life in Kent County. Her family moved to Norfolk, Va., for a short time while she was a teenager. She moved back to Delaware when she was 16 to help her sister take care of her children and attend Caesar Rodney High School. She met Gilbert Moore and married him on January 4, 1925, and they moved in with his father in Hazlettville. They moved to New York for a short time before returning to Willow Grove. They spent most of their married life working on various farms and raising their six children. In 1954, at the age of 46, she was hired as the first hostess at the newly built Hollywood Diner, she worked there until 1968. She also served on the Kent County Board of Elections in 1967-1968. In 1981, she was one of the first residents to move into Luther Towers and she lived there until she moved to Capital Nursing home in 2001. She enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles and watching game shows on TV. She was a member of the Trinity Wesleyan Church in Dover. In addition to her parents and siblings, she was preceded in death by her husband on October 12, 1966, a daughter, Ellen Rash Jones in 2001, two sons-in-law, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, William and Lois Moore of Lakeland, Fla.; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Dorothy and Edward Garrett of Dover, Dolores Hutson of Henderson, Md., Ruth and Jim Procopio of Dover and Linda and Harry Guiswite of Camden; 17 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 31 great-great-grandchildren as well as numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Route 10), Dover. Friends may call Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden. Letters of condolence may be sent, and guestbook signed at torbertfuneral.com.
