CARTHAGE, Mo. - James M. Short of Carthage, formerly of Millsboro, Del., died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2007, in McCune Brooks Hospital, Carthage. He was 84.
Mr. Short was born July 12, 1922, in Millsboro, son of the late Peter M. and Alice Short.
He was a lifetime member of the Methodist Church.
Mr. Short graduated from Millsboro High School in 1939. In 1947 he graduated from the University of Delaware.
A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he served as combat engineer platoon leader in the ETO.
On Aug. 19, 1944, Mr. Short married Minnie Fleetwood of Georgetown, Del., in Grendada, Miss.
He was employed for 38 years by Hercules as a chemical engineer and retired in 1985.
Mr. Short was a very dear, kind person to all.
He is survived by his wife, Minnia; a daughter, JoAnn Davis; and a son, James M. Short Jr.
Private funeral services were held at Park Cemetery, with the Rev. James Lee officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled Veterans of Delaware.
