BETTERTON, Md. - James L. Price Sr., chief of Betterton Volunteer Fire Co., died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2006, in Chester River Hospital Center, Chestertown. He was 57.

Mr. Price was born July 31, 1949, son of Elmer Price Sr. of Still Pond and the late Grace (Wiltbank) Price.

A lifetime resident of Kent County, Md., he was raised on a farm near Still Pond.

Mr. Price began working for Shore Well Drillers of Cecilton and in 1972 began his career working for William E. Anthony Inc., a plumbing, heating and electric company, which he currently owns and operates.

He enjoyed deer hunting, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Mr. Price was a life member of Betterton Volunteer Fire Co., Kent Co. Station 5, which he joined at the age of 15, and has held positions including financial secretary, chief engineer and assistant chief. Since 1986, for 20 consecutive years, he held the position of chief.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert A. Price.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Deborah (Anthony) Price; a son and a daughter-in-law, James Jr. and Brenda Price of Chestertown; a daughter, Teri Price and her fiancé, William Elborn of Barclay; his father, Elmer Price Sr. of Still Pond; two brothers, Elmer Price Jr. of Still Pond and David Price of Laurel, Del.; two sisters, Nancy Grahamer of Betterton and Lisa Sewell of Chestertown; three grandchildren, Gunnar A. Simpler, Kayla Price and Ashton Price; and extended family.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday in Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St. Galena.

Funeral service with fireman's honors will be 1 p.m. Sunday at the Betterton Volunteer Fire Co., 3 Howell Point Road, Betterton, where friends may call one hour earlier.

Burial will be in Still Pond Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Mr. Price's Grandchildren's Educational Fund, c/o Chesapeake Bank & Trust, 245 High St., Chestertown, MD 21620; or Betterton Volunteer Fire Co., P.O. Box 235, Betterton, MD 21610.
