James Ferrell Johnson Sr.

SMYRNA - James Ferrell Johnson Sr., of Smyrna, passed away on Thursday April 7, 2011, at Union Hospital in Elkton, Md. He was 62. Mr. Johnson was born Nov. 28, 1948, in Wilmington, to the late James Calvin Johnson and Virginia Dare Bare Johnson. He worked as a United Auto Worker for Chrysler in Newark, from 1970 to 1994, in which he took a medical retirement. Mr. Johnson enjoyed fishing and driving his Corvette. His hobbies included recycling scrap metal and working on and restoring cars. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Clarence M. Johnson and John F. Johnson Sr.; a sister, Rose Mae Spratt; and his companion of 20 years, Janice M. Chargualaf. He is survived by his son, James F. Johnson Jr. of Smyrna; his ex-wife and long time friend, Rebecca Ann Johnson of North East, Md.; two brothers, Joseph Calvin Johnson of Elkton, and Roy Cecil Johnson of Warwick, Md.; a sister, Barbara Joan Logan of Elkton; 15 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A viewing will be 11 a.m., Thursday, April 14, 2011, in the Faries Funeral Chapel located at 29 South Main Street, Smyrna. Funeral services will begin at noon. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Smyrna. Condolence letters may be sent by visiting www.fariesfuneralhome.com.
