James E. 'Jimmie' Smith I, 69 MAGNOLIA - James E. "Jimmie" Smith I, died Sunday, June 27, 2010, at home in Magnolia surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Smith was a truck driver for many years. He drove for Star Trucking and for Dave Walls. In his spare time, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle and spending time with his family and close friends. He also raced some at Little Lincoln and Willow Grove dirt race tracks, he had car #86. He was a generous man who would give you the shirt off of his back. He was a determined man who fought a hard battle for over 5 years to overcome his cancer. He will be truly missed. In addition to his parents, Emory and Grace Smith, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Harry Smith, and Johnny Elliott Welzel; and a sister, Helen Evelyn (Lewis) Cecil. He is survived by his son, James E. "Buck" Smith II of Magnolia; daughter, Tammy Butler of Georgetown; sister, Gloriaws Snyder of Magnolia; five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., June 30, at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Hwy., Harrington. Interment will be private. Donations may be made to the America Cancer Society or to Melvin Funeral Home to help defray costs.
