GEORGETOWN - James C. Phillips, of Georgetown, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2010, in Bayhealth at Milford Memorial Hospital. He was 86. James was born in Nanticoke, Pa., son of the late Elvin and Gladys (Gallup) Phillips. He began his career in education, in 1962, when he started teaching at Sussex Vo-Tech. He continued his career at Sussex Vo-Tech until he retired in 1988 as the schools administrator. James had served as President of the Delaware Chief School Officers, President of Delaware Association of School Administrators and was a member of the American Vocational Association. His memberships included the Georgetown Lions Club, where he served as past-president and for two terms as Cabinet Treasurer for District Lions, Franklin Lodge #12 A.F. & A.M., Nur Temple and the former Raymond Reynolds VFW Post #2931. He also served with Sussex County Planning and Zoning for 6 years. James was an active member of Georgetown Presbyterian Church and had served as trustee, elder and chairman of the building committee. James is survived by his wife, Beatrice (Shafer) Phillips; daughter, Ellen L. Campbell and companion, Bill Hariu, Waynesboro, Va.; sons, Neil R. and Betti Phillips, Wake Forest, N.C., Guy E. and Nancy Phillips, Georgetown and Keith J. and Anna Mae Phillips, Bullhead City, Ariz.; sister, Marilyn Goodfellow, Stratford, N.J. and brother, Dr. Wayne E. Phillips, Chester, Va.; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter. A memorial service will be 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010, at Georgetown Presbyterian Church, 203 N. Bedford Street, Georgetown, with visitation after noon. Burial in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the church. Arrangements handled by Short Funeral Services, Georgetown.
