Jack C. Newell, 71 GALENA, MD - Jack C. Newell died September 10, 2009, in Bay Health Medical Center, Dover, DE. Mr. Newell was born on July 6, 1938 in Ellsworth, ME, son of the late Leo Brasco and Darlene Newell. He was a graduate of Boston UN with a B.S. in Civil Engineering and earned his M.B.A. degree from Widener UN. His career began in 1959 with Pratt & Whitney as an Aeronautical Engineer working on environmental projects with the EPA, and continuing with Boeing, Weston, Environmental Research Management, and in 1994 he opened his own company Program Management Company. In 1995 he was named Philadelphia's Entrepreneur of the Year. He was the head of the Planning Commission in West Whiteland Township and was an active member of the Union League. He had lived in West Chester and Exton, Pa., before moving to Galena in 1999. He enjoyed sailing on the Sassafras River, where he was active with the Columbia Sailing Association. Mr. Newell was a member of the Shrewsbury Parish Church, holding the office of treasurer and also was the treasurer of the Easton Diocese. Mr. Newell is survived by his wife of 23 years, Mary Anne LaTorre Newell; three children, Jacqueline Lee Newell and her husband Stephen Smith of Takoma Park, Md., Wendy Newell, M.D. and her husband Troy Windham of Dover, De., and Jonathan Newell and his wife Liz Wagner-Newell of Langhorne, Pa.; and 8 grandchildren. Friends may call on Saturday, September 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St. Galena, and on Sunday, September 13 from 12 to 2 p.m. Funeral Service will follow at 3 p.m. in Shrewsbury Parish Church & Chapel, Kennedyville, Md. Burial in adjoining cemetery. Memorials may be offered to Camp AGAPE Diocese of Easton, Attn: Ruth Alexander, 314 North St. Easton, MD. 21601 or MWAMBA Church Ministries, P.O. Box 1016, Bala Cynwyd, PA. 19004.
