Isaac Napoleon Jefferson Sr.

DOVER - Isaac Napoleon Jefferson Sr., 83, of Dover, died Thursday, May 5, 2011, in the Serenity Hospice at Wilmington Veterans Administration Hospital in Elsmere. Born in Laurel, he was the son of the late Edward and Katharine Horsey Jefferson. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1948 and successfully served his country for 28 years. After retiring as Sergeant First Class from the Army, he joined the Dupont Company and worked for a short period of time. He also joined the 436th Maintenance Squadron at the Dover Air Force Base where he remained for ten years. Isaac was a member and trustee at the Whatcoat United Methodist Church of Dover. He was also a member of the Mason Composite Lodge #121 of Philadelphia, Pa. He leaves cherished memories with: his wife of 58 years, Adaline Jefferson of Dover; one son, Isaac N. (Claudene Strain) Jefferson, Jr. of Felton; one daughter, Rowena G. (Bobby) Baxter of Stafford, Va.; one brother, John Jefferson of Millsboro; four sisters-in-law, Gertrude Elzey of Salisbury, Dorothy Barnes of Delmar, Del., Naomi (Wendell) Johnson of Burlington, N.J., and Guelda (Robert) Tull of Willingboro, N.J.; three brothers-in-law, Alfred C. Mitchell, Jr. of Newark, N.J.; Charles (Mae) Mitchell of Delmar, and Jerome Burton of Laurel; five grandchildren, Michael Baxter of Washington, D.C., Antonio Thomas, Jr. of Manassas, Va., Michelle Jefferson of Dover, Tiffany Baxter of Stafford, and Ceara Jefferson of Felton; five great-grandchildren; a devoted and best friend, Ulysses Washington of Dover; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, in-laws, and friends. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Jerrell Baxter; four sisters, Edna Smith, Frances Dixon, Ann Miller, and Jeanette Burton; and one brother, Rudolph Jefferson. Isaac will lie in repose on Wednesday from 9 to 11 a.m., at Whatcoat United Methodist Church, 341 Saulsbury Road, Dover. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Rev. Alice Johnson Ervin will be the Officiating Pastor. Interment will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.
