Irene Veronica Hawpe

It is with great sadness that the family of Irene Roos (Mayette) Hawpe, formerly of Dover, passed away on Tuesday Nov. 13, 2018 in Panama City Beach, Fla. Irene was born July 18, 1936 in Bronx, N.Y. to the late Alfred Peter and May Catherine (Bachman) Roos.
Irene worked at Farmers Bank for 29 years. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards, bingo, shopping, and traveling. After retiring she was a volunteer at Kent General Hospital, Holy Cross bingo, and enjoyed socializing with her friends at Modern Maturity.
In addition to her parents, Irene was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Hawpe; her sister, Agnes LaVigne of Dingmans Ferry, Pa.; sister, Helen Wagner of Felton; granddaughter, Veronica Jett of Panama City Beach, Fla.; and husband Robert Mayette.
She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Williams of Panama City Beach, Fla.; grandsons, Adam Jett of Panama City Beach, Fla. and Matthew Williams of Sylva, N.C.; great-granddaughter, Annabella Coleman of Panama City Beach, Fla.; sister, Mildred Caldwell of Venice, Fla.; brother, Robert Roos of Milford; stepdaughters, Teri McCray (Raymond) of Staunton, Va., Lisa Whitehead (Greg) of Cleveland, Tenn., Anita Craig of Ten Mile, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
Her unforgettable laugh, strength, and optimism is an inspiration to us all and will be fondly remembered by all how knew her.
Gathering of family and friends will be held Monday, Dec. 3, 2018 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Trader Funeral Home at 12 Lotus St., Dover. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross at 631 S. State St., Dover followed by service at Holy Cross Cemetery.
