Irene E. Shields, 84

LAUREL - Irene E. Shields was 84 years of age. She currently resided in Laurel. She was formerly from Accomack County, Va. She departed from this life on Feb. 9, 2009, at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital after suffering a stroke. She was the daughter of the late Samuel Brewster Shields and Irena Savage of Accomack County. She attended Accomack County schools and worked as a Nurse' aide as well as a housewife. She enjoyed watching television and traveling to see her many grandchildren. She is survived by the following children, Mildred Parker (Clinton) of Snowhill, Md., Betty Cephas (Nathaniel) of Seaford, Samuel Shields (Laura), William Harmon (Peggy), both of Salisbury, Md., and Ginnette Harmon of Sterling, Va. Also the following stepchildren, Lucille Allen of Baltimore, Md., Winfred Allen of New Bern, N.C. and Carolyn Vickers, Lawton, Okla. She also leaves behind 12 grandchildren, 18 great- grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren. She was loved by a host of nieces, nephews and beloved friends. She was preceded in death by one son, Walter Allen Jr.; two sisters, Annie Seymour and Mary Davis; a special friend recognized as a sister, Dorothy Robertson; and ex- husband Ralph Robertson. Funeral services were Saturday, Feb. 14, at Mt Enoch Holiness Church, Rockawalkin Ridge Rd., Salisbury. Viewing was held Feb. 13, at Bennie Smith Funeral Home, 437 Front Street, Seaford.
