DOVER - Iona Maxine Crawford of Dover passed away Monday, May 21, 2007, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 51.
She was born Dec. 15, 1955, to Frances A. Crawford of Dover and the late William C. Crawford.
A graduate of Dover High School with a focus in culinary arts, Iona worked as a food service professional in the capacities of bartender, waitress and manager. Most recently, she worked as a sales associate at Wal-Mart until she became ill and could no longer work.
Growing up as a child, she attended the Mount Zion AME Church of Dover. In her later years, she attended Calvary Assembly of God. Iona loved the Lord very much and kept him first in her life. Every faithful day was begun with prayer.
Iona had many interests, hobbies and talents. She was a great cook and enjoyed doing that for her family. She also enjoyed reading, shopping, dining out, taking photographs, having a good time and singing.
In addition to her mother, she leaves to mourn her memory her dedicated and loving husband of eight years, Ronald "Sal" Alpiano; one devoted daughter, Nicole Crawford of Newark; one devoted son, Edmund "LJ" Ellis Jr. of Dover; one beautiful stepdaughter, Shakirah Alpiano of Philadelphia; seven wonderful grandchildren, Jalen, Shadeja, Jaymere, Naikeir, Jaziah, Naseem and Alina; five sisters, Antoinette (Dan) Franklin of Newark, Lynn Williams of Wilmington, Ruth Ann Crawford of Titusville, Fla., Barbara A. Hutchins of Dover, and Sara Ann Crawford of New Castle; one sister-in-law, Anna Maria Alpiano of Harleysville, Pa.; eight brothers, William C. (Rose) Crawford of Jacksonville, N.C., Barry (Cheryl) Crawford, Gary (Lil) Crawford, Allen Ward Jr., Nathan Ward and Terry "Dave" Davis, all of Dover, Dana Munson of New Castle, and Ernie Crawford of New Mexico; an aunt, Edith Bethel of Dover; two uncles, Knowles Hovington of Millsboro, and Francis Bethel Sr. of Dover; a loving godmother, Thelma Brown of Dover; a wonderful mother-in-law, Nedra Ellis of Philadelphia; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, many other family members and friends.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Zion AME Church, Queen and Fulton streets, Dover, where friends may view two hours prior. Burial will be in Whatcoat Cemetery.
