Hyle H. 'Feet' Roberts, 66

PONDTOWN, Md. - Hyle H. "Feet" Roberts of Pondtown died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2008, at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, Baltimore. He was 66.

Mr. Roberts was born in Coleman, son of the late Leon Sr. and Birdies Roberts.

He received his early education in Coleman and in 1959 he graduated from Garnett High School, Chestertown.

Mr. Roberts met Elenora Virginia Smith of Pondtown and in 1965 they were joined in Holy Matrimony.

He was a devoted son, brother, husband and father, and looked forward to spending time with his family.

Mr. Roberts worked at various jobs until he became employed as a laborer with Local Union 199. In 1992, he retired due to disability.

He was a member of various social organizations, including Mod Social Club, Father's Day Club, Coleman Organization, Pondtown Community Group, Garnett Alumni and Chester River Hospital Auxiliary.

Mr. Roberts was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, Pondtown, where he was president of the trustee board, and a member of the PPR committee, cemetery committee, kitchen crew, church custodians and church ushers. He faithfully attended the weekly "Hour of Prayer." In 2002, he started the first annual Roberts Day Service at Mt. Pleasant.

His other church affiliations were Millington-Pondtown Charge Men's Choir and the Combined Voices of Praise. Two of his favorite hymns were "Bright Side Somewhere" and "Trouble Don't Always Last."

Mr. Roberts also attended his home church, Union United Methodist Church in Coleman, where he sang on the choir when needed.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching sports on TV, pitching horseshoes, drawing and painting pictures and cooking. His specialty was frying fish and chicken.

Mr. Roberts took great pride in making vegetable beef soup and taking it to the elderly in the community.

His newest hobby was making decorations for graves and wreaths for doors.

Mr. Roberts is survived by his wife, Virginia Roberts of Pondotwn; a son, Hyle and his wife Turquita Roberts of San Antonio, Texas; a daughter, LaToya Roberts of Pondtown; two grandchildren, Alaya Roberts and Terrence Knox, both of San Antonio; a sister, Yvonne Fenwick of Coleman; five brothers and sisters-in-law, Leon Jr. (Barbara) Roberts of Chestertown, Donald (Alice) Roberts of Newark, Del., Paul (Darlene) Roberts of Coleman, William (Brenda) Roberts of Baltimore, John (Dianne) Roberts of Baltimore and Elaine (late husband, Eugene) Roberts; an adopted granddaughter, Sierra Ocasio; three aunts, Helen Gaines and Mary Brooks, both of Warton, and Mabel Steward of Wilmington, Del.; and two uncles, Lewis Wilson of Still Pond and Albert Wilson of Cecilton.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, Pondtown, where friends may call two hours prior.

Friends may also call from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday at the church.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The Rev. Etta Mae Moore will officiate.
