DAGSBORO - Howard E. Melson of Dagsboro passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007, in Harbor Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Lewes. He was 88.
Mr. Melson was born Oct. 11, 1918, in Dagsboro, son of the late Roy and Bessie Melson.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Melson was a bombardier on a B-24 and also a prisoner of war. He retired as a tech sergeant after 21 years.
Mr. Melson then became a poultry grower and a school bus contractor.
He was a member of St. George's United Methodist Church in Clarksville, American Legion Post 24 in Dagsboro, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7422 in Millsboro, Ex-Prisoners of War and Disabled American Veterans.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Jeanette (Elliott) Melson; two sons, Howard D. Melson and Charles D. Melson; a sister, Marie Evans of Newark; four grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Howard's name to St. George's United Methodist Memorial Fund, Rt. 2, Box F, Clarksville, DE 19970; or the Home of the Brave, 6632 Sharps Road, Milford, DE 19963.
