Herman 'Leon' Robinson, 87
SMYRNA - Mr. Herman "Leon" Robinson, of Collins Avenue, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008, in Bay Health Hospital. She was 87. He attended Delaware State University before enlisting in the Army during World War II. He served in the South Pacific, before returning to Delaware to marry his wife of 62 years, Betty Watson. Leon was the oldest male member of his home church, Centennial United Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee for many years. He retired from his long-time employer, W.L. Wheatley/Campbell Soup in 1983, and enjoyed 25 years of retired happiness. Leon is survived by his wife, Betty Watson Robinson; three daughters, Shirlyn Stanback, Barbara Robinson, and Donna Scott; three granddaughters, Shonnese Stanback, Belena Butler, and Shinita Scott; one great-granddaughter, Nina; two sons-in-law, Charles Stanback and John Scott; one foster son, Jeff Williams; and a "daughter" and long-time family friend, Mary Huff. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. today, Dec. 20, 2008, at the Centennial United Methodist Church, Mt. Vernon St., Smyrna, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Sharon Hill Memorial Gardens, Dover. Arrangements are being handled by Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Dover.
