DOVER - Henry L. Evers, Jr. passed into glory on April 25, 2018 at his home with family by his side.
Mr. Evers retired after 35 years with the duPont Company having begun his career at the Experimental Station in Wilmington. He spent 25 years in finance, early computer applications and later as a systems analyst. He was a tax preparer until last year. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois, and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Prior to moving to Dover, he was a member of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Newark, serving as elder for 18 years. During this time he also participated in a Christian teaching and training lay counseling ministry along with his wife during which time the couple endeared themselves to many of their fellow Christians.
Mr. Evers loved to travel with family and friends and had seen most of the U.S., with Alaska being his favorite adventure. He was adored by friends and neighbors who benefited from his handiness and access to his large collection of tools. Affectionately known as "Mr. Fix-it" he was always generous with his time, always eager to share his know-how on home projects.
Mr. Evers is survived by his wife of 62 years, Irene H. (Holecek) Evers; two children, Cheryl Beach (Randy) of Pensacola, Fla. and Steven Evers (Rozann) of Newtown, Pa.; a brother, Robert Evers (Virginia) of Dover; and three adored grandchildren, Matthew Beach (Ashley), Joshua Evers and Moriah Beach.
A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. on Monday, April 30, 2018 at Grace Church, 350 McKee Road, Dover, DE 19904 where friends may visit with the family from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Biblical Counseling Foundation Ministries via www.bcfministries.org
