Helen Lydia (Ely) Mallery, 95
Cumberland, Md. - Helen Lydia (Ely) Mallery of Cumberland died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2006, in Memorial Hospital in Cumberland. She was 95.
Mrs. Mallery was born July 27, 1911, in Delaware City, Del., daughter of the late Harry Kirk and Elsie (Billingsley) Ely.
She was a retired cook for the Allegany County School system. She was a member of the Bethel Church of the Nazarene, Valley Road and was a volunteer for Memorial Hospital for more than 25 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Winship Mallery Sr.; a daughter, Helen L. Bowers; a son, H. Allen Mallery; two grandsons, Ronnie Mallery and Roger Mallery; two sisters; two brothers; and two great-granddaughters.
She is survived by four daughters, Edith L. Abbott of Cumberland, Aileen Rader of Centerville, Pa., Betty L. Adams of Barboursville, W.Va. and Virginia Ann Wolfe, Kearneysville, W.Va.; four sons, Lawrence W. Mallery Jr. of Dover, Del., John K. Mallery of Hyndman, Pa., Robert J. Mallery of Oldtown, David Mallery of Manassas, Va.; three sisters, Lillian G. Hampton of Weyers Cave, Va., Ruth A. Bohannon of Welcome, Betty L. Lasell of San Diego, Calif.; a brother, Ellsworth Ely of Pinehurst, N.C.; 33 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home. The Rev. David F. Dayhoff will officiate.
Burial will be in Davis Memorial Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Dennis Mallery, David Clark, Scott Mallery, Bill Adams, Logan Wolfe , Charles Abbott and Leroy Cessna.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Oldtown Volunteer Fire Department, Oldtown, MD 21555; or Bethel Church of the Nazarene, 11718 Valley Road NE, Cumberland, MD 21502; or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
