Hazel Brandenburg Celis, 68

DOVER - Hazel Brandenburg Celis died on Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, after a courageous battle with cancer. She died in her home surrounded by her family. She was 68. Hazel was born in Camden, N.J. She attended Wesley College in Dover, and subsequently settled in Dover where she raised her family. Hazel was an immensely devoted and loving mother to her three children. Those who knew her knew of her kindness and generosity towards anyone lucky enough to befriend her. After raising her three children, Hazel relocated to Middletown. Although this was her home, she traveled frequently visiting her four grandchildren, whom she adored. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Jose Celis. She is survived by her son, Jose Celis, Jr. of Moores, N.Y.; her daughters Cristy Beckman of Middletown, and Deborah Celis of Essex Junction, Vt.; her grandson, Jose Celis, III; and granddaughters, Hannah Beckman, Emily Moll-Celis and Chloe Moll-Celis. Services are private. The family plans a reception in her honor at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Delaware Hospice, 5515 Silverside Road, Wilmington, DE 19810 Letters of condolence may be sent, and guest book signed at www.torbertfuneral.com.
