Hazel Alice Higgins

DOVER - Hazel Alice Higgins, of Dover, passed away Friday, April 20, 2012, at her home with her loving family. She was born on Dec. 17, 1929, in Sycamore, Ala. She moved to Delaware in 1971 with her husband and two daughters. Hazel was an active member of First Baptist Church, where she served on numerous committees and boards. In addition to her numerous activities at the church, she also enjoyed her many years singing with the Senior Choir. In 1985, she went to work at Forney's Too in downtown Dover; she made many lifelong friends while working there. Her hobbies included bowling, gardening, reading, and writing cards to her friends and family. Most of all, she loved and cherished the time she spent with her family. She was predeceased by her sisters, Janice Hemminger and Helen Gold; and her brother, Jimmy Ray Patterson. Hazel is survived by her loving daughters, Donna Hutchins and her husband Voshell, and Teresa Gedney and her husband Steve. She will be remembered by her grandchildren, Brian Gedney and his wife, Gabriella, and Jessica Gedney; as well as her great-grandchild, Ava Gedney. She also leaves behind a brother, Robert Fuller and his wife, Diane; a brother-in-law, Jimmy Higgins and his wife Jeanette; and a sister-in-law, Nancy Tillison, and her husband Allen. She also leaves behind a host of friends, acquaintances, and other family members in Alabama. She touched the lives of those she met with her sweet and positive spirit. Hazel will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, April 28, 2012, at the First Baptist Church, 301 Walker Rd, Dover, where friends may gather starting at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Sharon Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, 301 Walker Road, Dover, DE. Letters of condolence can be sent via www.pippinfuneralhome.com.
