NEWARK - Harry E. Altemus Jr. of Newark passed away Sunday, July 29, 2007, in Heartland Hospice House, Wilmington. He was 70.
Mr. Altemus, a lifelong resident of New Castle County, retired from A.H. Angerstein after 42 years of dedicated service.
He loved camping with his family and friends. After retirement he enjoyed spending time at his brother"s farm tending to the buffalo and longhorns.
Mr. Altemus was a lifetime member of Christiana Fire Co., was a member of Armstrong Lodge 26, AF & AM, and the Delaware Consistory, and was a member of the First State Campers of Family Campers and RV-ers, and the Delaware Rolling Wheels.
He was preceded in death his father, Harry E. Altemus Sr.; and two sisters, Janet Thomas and Bette Williams.
He is survived by his mother, Vivian L. Altemus of Newark; his wife of 47 years, Joanne (Conly) Altemus of Newark; a son and a daughter-in-law, Gregory and Karyn Altemus of Newark; a brother and best friend, and a sister-in-law, Richard and Ann Altemus of Newark; a sister and a brother-in-law, Dorothy and Raymond Megonigal of Dover; another brother, Gerald Altemus of Hartly; several nieces and nephews; and many four-legged friends.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the McCrery Memorial Chapel, 3710 Kirkwood Highway at Duncan Road, Wilmington.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday in the memorial chapel.
Burial will be in Silverbrook Memorial Park, Wilmington.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Heartland Hospice House, 5661 Ochletree Lane, Wilmington, DE 19808; or to the Christiana Fire Co., Main St., Newark, DE 19702.
